As I recreate the school’s newsletters and yearly magazine graphic design blogs are a must. Found this interesting site 'geekChic Web Design and Desktop Publishing's' which also has links to other desktop industry related blogs.
I can see the use of client blogging within the school – client being teachers keeping them up-to-date in relevant subjects. Also students researching for subject information could log onto that subject blog. It would take a lot of work to set up but these blogs could then direct the researcher to relevant subject links and they could also ask questions.
